BCA puts stop to demolition works at 5 Shenton Way

Following the partial collapse of a multi-storey carpark during demolition works at 5 Shenton Way, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has revoked the permit for the works.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) also issued a stop work order for the demolition of the four-storey carpark located beside UIC Building.

The builder said that all workers on-site were accounted for and one injured worker has been given medical attention.

According to initial findings, the partial collapse may have been caused by accumulated debris against the back of the building.

After conducting a site inspection, the professional engineer in charge of the demolition concluded that the neighbouring 39-storey UIC building tower was not affected and has no structural safety concerns.

The engineer has also instructed the builder to prop part of the carpark structure facing Shenton Way to ensure safety. While propping works are ongoing, two lanes at Shenton Way have been closed as an additional precautionary measure.

Authorities have advised the builder to conduct a thorough investigation on the incident.
