Singapore shares end down 1%

SINGAPORE - Singapore share prices ended 0.97% lower on Friday amid Europe's deepening debt woes, disappointing US data and Chinese manufacturing numbers.

The blue-chip Straits Times Index dropped 26.83 points to end at 2,745.71.

In the broader market, 1.10 billion shares changed hands, with losers outnumbering gainers 218 to 126.

Among the losers, Olam International slumped 3.3% to close at S$1.61 while Noble Group ended 2.2% lower at S$1.09.

Among the banks, UOB closed down 2.4% at S$17.26, OCBC retreated 1.2% to
S$8.26 and DBS dropped 0.7% to S$13.13.
