Strong demand for family-friendly businesses: survey

SINGAPORE: A national survey has shown that there is a strong demand and business case for family-friendly businesses.

The survey showed that businesses that cater to families can look forward to a long-term relationship with their family customers.

Sixty per cent of the consumers surveyed indicated that they have a preference to return or make frequent visits to family-friendly establishments.

The survey also showed that family-friendly features were important.

Over 800 businesses and 1,200 consumers took part in the survey.

The survey results were unveiled by Mrs Mildred Tan, chairperson of the Business for Families Council (BFC), at the second Businesses for Families Conference held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel on Thursday.

Mr Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, who was also at the conference, urged businesses to invest in family-friendly initiatives.

He also stressed the need for more family-friendly businesses to cater to family needs.

"There are four critical elements in making Singapore a great place for families - government policies that focus on family well-being, public infrastructure and services that meet the needs of families, employers that allow work-life balance, and businesses that cater to the needs of family customers," he added.
