Singapore shares end down in quiet session

SINGAPORE - Singapore share prices fell 0.1% on Monday in a lacklustre session ahead of a public holiday in Singapore on Tuesday.

The blue-chip Straits Times Index closed 3.01 points lower at 2,978.57.



In the broader market, overall volume traded was 2.36 billion shares worth S$1.27 billion. Losers outnumbered gainers 257 to 149.

Among the gainers, container shipper Neptune Orient Lines rose 2.5% to close at S$1.235 while SingTel ended up 0.6% at S$3.12.

Local banks ended mixed, with DBS Group down 0.3% at S$13.96 while Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp added 0.1% to S$8.96 and United Overseas Bank gained 1.3% to S$19.25.

Markets in Singapore will be closed on Tuesday for the Labour Day public holiday.
