NTUC doubles best sourcing grant

SINGAPORE: The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has doubled the maximum grant that a service buyer can receive under the Best Sourcing Initiative Programme.

The amount will go up from the current S$75,000 to S$150,000.

Announcing this at a tripartite forum on best sourcing, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower Hawazi Daipi said for best sourcing to take root deeply, and to improve the employment terms and conditions of out-sourced workers, service providers must also play their part.

He said enlightened companies should focus on quality because it actually reduces total cost in the long term.

He added that when service providers are more productive, they can pass on cost savings to the buyer and when they make more productive use of their workers, these workers get paid more and enjoy better benefits.

These in turn, raise morale and reduce absenteeism and slip-ups.
