NJC students create Android app to help seniors explore neighbourhood

SINGAPORE: Students from National Junior College (NJC) have come up with an Android app that encourages senior citizens to go on heritage trails around their neighbourhood.

Launching Active Ageing Through Learning-on-the-move, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said this joint-initiative by NJC and Moulmein-Kallang GRC will strengthen the inter-generational bonds within the community.

The first ones to learn to use the Heritage Trail app were senior citizens from Moulmein-Kallang GRC.

The app will let users explore trails on their own.

Each trail is made up of various sites known as "hotspots". When a user is near a hotspot, the device will be activated. They can then learn more about the site through videos or pictures, and test their knowledge by answering questions about the site.

Sites visited on Saturday include the Singapore Botanic Gardens and Adam Food Centre.
