Group proposes setting up farmers' market

SINGAPORE: The Kranji Countryside Association is eyeing a plot of land at Lim Chu Kang.

It wants to develop it into a farmers' market as part of the association's 10-year plan to promote tourism in the area.

There are old blocks of HDB flats at the junction of Lim Chu Kang Road and Neo Tiew Road, which belong to the Ministry of Defence.

And the Kranji Countryside Association plans to get approval from the authorities to develop the area.

The idea has been in the making for the past three years.

Kranji Countryside Association president Ivy Singh-Lim said: "The Kranji countryside can be the soul of the city. And at the soul of the city, we should have a farmers' market.

"It's basically a rustic market, where we can buy... plants, you can eat, you can have entertainment, you can buy sweets. Most of it is home made, meaning people do handwork and craft and pottery which is lacking here."
