Southeast Asians flock to Singapore for new iPad

Indonesian Andy Ignatius (far right) has been in the line since 7pm yesterday.

While many got their new iPads at the stroke of midnight in Singapore, or already ordered them online, we still found lines forming outside various resellers on the Orchard Road shopping belt this morning.

Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian and even Hong Kong tourists were among the people at the front of the queues.

At Epicentre in the 313@Somerset mall, Indonesian Andy Ignatius had been in line since 7pm the night before. He was buying the new iPad to play Infinity Blade II.

Right next door, at iStudio in the Orchard Central shopping center, Thai tourist Akharaphat Benjapattharaseth flew in yesterday to get a 64GB 4G model for himself. He was first in line and has been queueing since 4am.

A group of tourists from Hong Kong said that they’re purchasing the 4G models because they were not available in their country.

Lastly, at the Nubox outlet at Raffles City, Malaysian tourists Matthew Yeow and girlfriend Gan Shin were first in line. Yeow said that he was buying a 64GB 4G model for his girlfriend as a birthday present.
