SMa adopts enhanced work safety standards

SINGAPORE : The Singapore Manufacturers' Federation (SMa) has adopted enhanced safety standards at the workplace.

The aim is to minimise work accidents so that productivity can be increased.

Two codes of practices have been revised.

The first, covering workplace manual operations, has been expanded to include the latest practices to help workers avoid injuries from such activities.

The second, covering equipment safety procedures, has been updated to require employers to enforce a policy for machines to have locking systems.

This means that a machine cannot be operated until the lockout device has been removed for safety.

The last time the codes were reviewed was over a decade ago.
