Singapore stocks end 1.5% higher

SINGAPORE : Stocks in Singapore closed 1.5 per cent higher on Tuesday on hopes that the United States will maintain its monetary easing policy to boost its economy.

The Straits Times Index rose 44.41 points to end at 3,018.91.

Volume was 1.81 billion shares.

Gainers led losers 293 to 102.

Neptune Orient Lines climbed 3.6 per cent to S$1.425, CapitaLand advanced 3.3 per cent to S$3.14, Golden Agri-Resources closed 2.6 per cent higher at S$0.78, while Swiber Holdings gained 5.2 per cent to S$0.705.
