Bus operators improved 22 services in Q1 2012: LTA report

SINGAPORE: SBS Transit and SMRT have improved 22 bus services and added 180 bus trips weekly between January and March, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

The findings were part of a quarterly review of bus services by LTA and the two public transport operations.

SBS Transit and SMRT deployed higher capacity buses or added more bus trips to increase frequency and capacity for sectors with heavy ridership.

For example, SMRT added an extra trip on Service 77 while SBS Transit started short trips on three bus services - 53, 198 and 240.

The additions and improvements cater better to peak-period demand along specific stretches of these bus routes, with commuters waiting at bus stops along those stretches now having a better chance of boarding the first-arriving bus during the peak periods.

This latest round of improvements raises to 104 the number of unique bus services since the quarterly review process began in June 2010.
